About
Shakespeare’s iconic “Pastoral Comedy” comes to Old Stone House & Washington Park in Brooklyn, NY with a Seven Stages Shakespeare Company twist.
At moments light and fluffy, by turns devastating and harrowing. Hope Triumphs in a tale of displaced children, usurped parents, Brothers feuding, Cousins striding through their world side by side. Humanity, the Power and Destruction of Expansion, The Country and The Court. The park is the park. To one side a bank of trees, roots extending into the mulch and underlit. To the other side, a gorgeous stone building sitting confidently in front of the backdrop of a concrete Jungle. Music is in the air. The smell of Ice Cream, Cotton Candy, (boiling trash), and a neighborhood Barbeque waft through the playing space.
Directed by Dan Beaulieu, this Equity Approved Showcase production will root itself in the beautiful ease of Summer, the sweet sounds of outdoor Music, and Questions over answers. Where do we seek Respite? What is “the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals”? How and Why do we spend our Time?
In a three dimensional exploration of Nature, Human Nature, and The Possibility of The Natural, this AS YOU LIKE IT promises* to share with you much to think about, a song or two to leave whistling, and the Bounce of Chance in your step on the walk through the park to the place you call
Home.
*-(or not. As you like it.)
Please BYOFC- bring your own folding chair, or blanket, for sitting.
The Old Stone House will have refreshments (both for those 21+ and those younger) for sale at each show.
